Green Havens Livery Centre

Here at Green Havens, our aim is to create a happy, healthy and sociable environment for all the horses and ponies on the yard. Our equine care is largely based on two welfare models:

  • the 3 Fs (Friends, Forage and Freedom); and
  • the 5 domains (nutrition, environment, health, behavioural interactions and mental state).

What does this look like?

Basic care for your horse or pony will consist of 24/7 turnout all year round (with access to shelter) in a mixed herd with a forage-based diet. This is our baseline care which then is built onto with anything else needed by the individual horse or pony, for example supplementary feeding or special care for injuries/conditions/etc.. Any extra feed given is carefully chosen for the individual horse/pony using low-sugar, high-fibre feeds.

We have managed horses in this way for many years and it is wonderful to see the relationships that it allows horses to form with each other!

The five domains model provides a brilliant holistic approach to everything we do with horses and means that horses and ponies can enjoy a peaceful and happy life!

What is included in the livery package?

Our livery package is designed specially for the retired horse or pony. However, horses/ponies in work are welcome and the livery package would also suit:

  • youngstock
  • competition horse/pony in the off-season or when needing a break from competition
  • holiday livery

We are happy to tailor the livery package to your individual horse or pony, so please get in touch to discuss!

Included in our livery package is:

  • excellent day-to-day care
  • 24/7 year-round turnout in a mixed herd with access to shelter
  • experienced and knowledgeable owner on-site
  • hay/haylage in winter months
  • regular trims
  • regular equine sports massage sessions
  • arrangement of all routine care (including worming programme & vaccinations)
